
Admission Requirements
Students who want to earn certificates in English Language Proficiency must first take the Michigan Placement Test (MPT). A score of 50 on the MPT is required for admission to the Intermediate Certificate in English program. A score of 65 on the MPT or completion of the High-Intermediate Certificate is required for the Advanced Certificate program. Possible transfer credit from other institutions will be determined by the director in accordance with university policies.
Intermediate Certificate of English Proficiency (ICEP)
The intermediate certificate in English proficiency consists of 15 credits in English language studies, with 12 of the credits in required courses and 3 credits in an elective course. This program may be completed in one semester.

Advanced Certificate of English Proficiency (ACEP)
The advanced certificate in English proficiency consists of 15 credits in English language studies, with 12 of the credits in required courses and 3 credits in elective courses. This program may be completed in one semester. Completion of this certificate program with a GPA of 3.2, along with instructor recommendation, may result in waiver of the TOEFL or MTELP.
